In the beginning of This Boy's Life, Tobias wolff included two quotations. One of the quotes stated "The first duty in life is to assume a pose. What the second is, no one has yet discovered." I "assume a pose" in my day-to-day life. When I am with any of my friends I do not put on a different facade, or even assume a different personality. No matter what the group or setting is I do not change like most of the Woodstock Academy females within the school do. I do not want to be called "fake" like many people. I think it is a low blow to call others names and talk crap on your "bestfriend" behind their back.
If I had to pick a group of people and an environment that I would say I show one hundred percent of my "true" self is at home with my family and my closest friends. When I am at home I can get hyper and enjoy myself alot more than I am at school. When I am doing work for school, such as reading books for Mrs. Rouleau or doing an important task I can get very serious. I don't want to be fooling around when I am in my serious mode. I do not like changing and being someone else, I like to be myself around everyone I can. My friends and family would not like a fake person in their life. I always try to be real as possible 24/7 with everyone I love.

In response to this comment T.Rex, I fully agree with your response to the question. I believe that you should always be real with your family and friends 24/7. If I knew who you were T.Rex, im sure I would fully agree with your response as well.

ReplyDeleteI really liked this, but especially the part where you mentioned making fun of friends behind their backs. I'm strongly against this and really enjoyed seeing this pop up on a post. I also totally agree with your end comment about being your true self around people close to you.
